Washington, D.C., witnessed a massive wave of protests on Saturday as several thousand demonstrators took to the streets to demand that President Donald Trump end the deployment of National Guard troops across the city.

The march, titled “We Are All D.C.,” brought together diverse groups, including undocumented immigrants and advocates for Palestinian statehood. Protesters chanted anti-Trump slogans and carried placards with bold messages such as “Trump Must Go Now,” “Free D.C.,” and “Resist Tyranny.”

“I’m here to protest the occupation of D.C.,” said protester Alex Laufer. “We’re opposing the authoritarian regime, and we need to get the federal police and the National Guard off our streets.”

The demonstrations come amid heightened tensions as Trump continues to defend his decision to send National Guard troops to the nation’s capital. He has argued that the move was necessary to “re-establish law, order, and public safety” in a city he claims is plagued by crime.

Critics, however, accuse the administration of federal overreach, pointing out that Trump not only deployed troops but also placed the Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control. In addition, federal law enforcement agents, including officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), were sent to patrol the city’s streets.

Trump has also hinted at expanding similar measures to other Democratic-led cities. In a social media post referencing Chicago, he suggested migrant deportations, pairing the message with an image parodying the 1979 Vietnam War film Apocalypse Now.

The escalating standoff between the Trump administration and protesters highlights a deepening clash over civil liberties, public safety, and federal power in the nation’s capital.
