From Street Vendor to State Chef: Gov. Adeleke Fulfills Promise to Puff-Puff Seller, Oluwatosin Adejumo

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has officially appointed Ms. Oluwatosin Adejumo, a street puff-puff vendor who recently went viral, as a chef in the Osun State Government House. The announcement marks the fulfillment of a pledge Adeleke made during a labour rally in Osogbo on August 29, where he purchased all of Adejumo’s snacks for ₦50,000 and promised her employment.

In a statement shared via his official X account on Friday, Governor Adeleke expressed delight in keeping his word. “A few days ago, I met Ms. Oluwatosin Adejumo during the rally where labour unions and other groups declared their support for my re-election. Today, I have kept that promise by officially presenting her appointment letter as one of our Government House chefs,” he wrote.

Beyond her new role, Adeleke also announced an educational scholarship for Adejumo, covering her studies up to the Master’s level if she chooses to pursue further education. Adejumo, who holds a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) and formal training in catering, rose to online prominence after a video captured Adeleke’s generous gesture during the rally.

In addition to Adejumo’s appointment, the governor celebrated the commissioning of the long-abandoned Osun Farmers’ House in Osogbo. The project, first initiated under former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, had been left neglected for years by successive administrations. Adeleke said reopening the facility demonstrates his government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and boosting Osun’s economy.

“This milestone shows how serious we are about meeting the needs of our farmers while driving transformation in every sector of our state. I sincerely appreciate the support from Osun’s farmers and reaffirm my pledge to revitalise agriculture as part of our larger mission to secure food for our people,” Adeleke said.

With these initiatives, Governor Adeleke has signaled his administration’s dual focus on human empowerment and long-term development, combining immediate opportunities for individuals with broader strategies to build a sustainable future for Osun State.
