Liverpool have completed the signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British-record transfer worth £125 million ($169 million). The deal, finalized on Monday, ends a long-running pursuit that became one of the defining stories of the Premier League transfer window.
Isak, 25, has signed a six-year contract with the Premier League champions after Newcastle finally accepted Liverpool’s improved bid. The prolific forward had been one of Liverpool’s top transfer targets as the club looked to strengthen its attack ahead of the new season.
Speaking to the club’s official website after putting pen to paper, Isak expressed his delight at joining Jurgen Klopp’s side. “I feel amazing. It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for,” he said.
He added: “It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there.”
Isak’s arrival is expected to add firepower to Liverpool’s attack as the champions aim to defend their Premier League crown and make a deep run in the Champions League. His physicality, pace, and clinical finishing have made him one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers, and Liverpool will hope his addition strengthens their bid for further silverware.
