The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Enugu State has strongly criticized Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, popularly known as Nwakaibeya, describing him as a “sleeping minister” with no role to play in the affairs of the Enugu Government House.
The condemnation comes against the backdrop of lingering divisions within the state chapter of the APC, as party leaders openly expressed dissatisfaction with Nnaji’s performance both as a minister and as the party’s 2023 governorship candidate.
According to the APC leaders, Nnaji’s failed bid for the governorship seat and his underwhelming presence in the federal cabinet have weakened his credibility within the party. They argued that his lack of impact in governance undermines his relevance in Enugu’s political landscape.
The public rebuke signals renewed tensions among APC stakeholders in Enugu, where internal wrangling has been a recurring obstacle to the party’s consolidation. Political analysts suggest that the sharp criticism of Nnaji could further deepen rifts within the party ahead of future elections in the state.
As the APC seeks to strengthen its base in Enugu, the clash between state leaders and the minister may shape the direction of opposition politics in the coming months.
