A major fire broke out at the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery in Samara Oblast, Russia, following a series of Ukrainian drone strikes that also targeted other facilities. According to Ukrainian military officials, drones struck both the Afipsky refinery in the Krasnodar region and the Kuibyshev refinery in Samara, sparking multiple explosions and setting parts of the refinery ablaze.

The Afipsky refinery, Ukraine claimed, plays a role in supplying fuel to the Russian military, making it a key target in Kyiv’s ongoing campaign against Moscow’s oil sector. The Ukrainian military emphasized that the strike was part of a broader effort to cripple President Vladimir Putin’s economic strongholds while demonstrating Ukraine’s capability to retaliate amid ongoing international peace efforts.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed it intercepted or shot down 102 drones across seven regions overnight, including Samara. However, while Moscow acknowledged a fire at the Afipsky refinery, it has yet to officially confirm the reported strike and resulting blaze at the Kuibyshev refinery.

The refinery attacks are part of Ukraine’s intensified drone operations this month, directly targeting Russia’s oil production and export infrastructure. Kyiv’s strategy highlights its intent to disrupt one of Moscow’s most vital economic sectors while maintaining pressure on the Kremlin.
