Borussia Dortmund have strengthened their midfield with the signing of England under-21 star Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea in a deal worth a reported €25 million ($29 million). The 21-year-old has penned a contract that will keep him at the Bundesliga club until 2030.
Chukwuemeka is no stranger to Dortmund, having spent the second half of last season on loan with the German side. During that spell, he made 17 appearances across all competitions, scored once, and played a key role in helping the club reach the quarter-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite battling injury setbacks, his performances impressed both fans and management, paving the way for a permanent move.
In his first statement as a full Dortmund player, Chukwuemeka expressed his excitement: “I’m happy Borussia Dortmund is now my footballing home. I will give everything to make sure we achieve our goals as a team.”
Born in Austria before moving to England at a young age, Chukwuemeka came through Aston Villa’s academy before joining Chelsea in 2022. His transfer to Dortmund marks the next step in a promising career as he looks to establish himself in European football.
The move is part of Dortmund’s busy summer recruitment drive, which has already seen the arrival of Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland and Yan Couto from Manchester City. With these additions, the Bundesliga giants aim to bolster their squad depth ahead of the new season and strengthen their challenge in both domestic and European competitions.
