A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s Sulawesi island early Sunday, leaving at least 29 people injured, including two in critical condition, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
The shallow quake, recorded at a depth of just 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), rattled communities in Poso Regency and surrounding areas, sending residents rushing out of their homes in panic. While no fatalities have been reported so far, emergency teams remain on high alert as aftershocks are possible.

Witnesses described the tremor as strong and sudden, shaking buildings and causing widespread fear across central Sulawesi. Authorities confirmed that the injured are receiving medical treatment, with critical cases closely monitored by healthcare workers.
Indonesia, which lies along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone regions. The vast archipelago sits atop several shifting tectonic plates, making it vulnerable to frequent seismic activity and tsunamis.

Officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and follow safety advisories, as assessments of potential structural damage are still underway.
