Arsenal’s high-profile summer signing, Viktor Gyokeres, has found himself at the centre of an unexpected controversy after Swedish media linked his £64 million (€74m/$86m) transfer from Sporting Lisbon to an ongoing shooting and blackmail investigation in Stockholm.

According to Swedish newspaper ETC, police are probing a shooting incident in Huddinge, a suburb of the Swedish capital, where gunmen allegedly targeted a relative of a football agent. Two shots were fired at a house, but no one was injured. Investigators now suspect the attack may be tied to an extortion plot connected to Gyokeres’ record-breaking move to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old Sweden international is represented by Hasan Cetinkaya Management, whose agents would have earned a substantial portion of the transfer fee. Reports suggest one of the agents involved publicly posted about his role in the Gyokeres deal on social media — a move that allegedly triggered blackmail attempts.

Gyokeres’ transfer to Arsenal was already fraught with tension. The striker missed the start of Sporting’s pre-season, was sanctioned by the Portuguese club, and was embroiled in disputes involving blackmail allegations and broken promises before finally sealing his move to the Emirates Stadium.

While police in Sweden continue their investigation, Arsenal and Gyokeres remain focused on football, with the Gunners’ new striker expected to play a key role in Mikel Arteta’s plans for the upcoming season. However, the latest revelations have added an unexpected off-pitch twist to one of the summer’s biggest transfer stories.
