A powerful explosion at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works plant in Pennsylvania has left at least one person dead, with two others missing and several more injured, authorities have confirmed.

Emergency crews are searching through rubble for workers who may be trapped following the blast, which occurred on Monday. Thick plumes of black smoke were seen rising from the facility, prompting officials to warn residents within a one-mile radius to keep their windows and doors closed.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said multiple explosions were reported at the plant and confirmed that injured employees had been taken to nearby hospitals. Search and rescue operations remain underway, with local authorities urging the public to stay clear of the area and follow safety instructions.

Local media reported that the explosion shook nearby neighborhoods, and rescue teams are working in challenging conditions to locate the missing workers.
