Colombian senator and presidential hopeful Miguel Uribe has died, weeks after being shot during a campaign event in Bogota. The 39-year-old, a prominent figure in the right-wing Democratic Centre party, was seen as a rising political star and a potential candidate for the 2026 presidential election.
Uribe was attacked on June 7 while addressing supporters at a rally. He sustained critical injuries and underwent multiple surgeries at the Santa Fe Clinic in Bogota. According to medical officials, he suffered a severe bleed to his central nervous system and was scheduled for yet another surgery before his condition deteriorated.

His wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, paid a heartfelt tribute on social media: “Rest in peace, love of my life, I will take care of our children. I ask God to show me the way to learn to live without you.”
Uribe’s assassination has sent shockwaves through Colombian politics. He had built a swift and notable career, earning recognition for his legislative work and emerging as a vocal opposition figure. His death marks a tragic and violent turn in the run-up to the next presidential race.

Authorities have arrested a teenager in connection with the shooting, though the motive remains unclear. The killing has reignited concerns about political violence in Colombia, where campaigning can still come at a deadly cost.
