Kyiv, Ukraine — Tragedy struck the Ukrainian capital as a wave of Russian missile and drone attacks left six people dead and more than 50 injured in one of the most intense overnight assaults on the city in recent weeks.

Among the victims was a six-year-old boy, Ukrainian officials confirmed, as emergency crews raced to search through the wreckage of a destroyed residential building.

The air raid, which began late in the night and extended into the early morning hours, caused devastation across multiple districts of Kyiv.

A Russian strike obliterated the entrance to a high-rise apartment complex, leaving behind a trail of mangled concrete, shattered glass, and grief-stricken residents. Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, warned that the death toll could rise as rescue operations continue across more than two dozen affected locations.

“The hum of Russian drones was constant through the night,” said one Kyiv resident. “It was only broken by the terrifying blasts of missile impacts.”

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched a staggering 309 drones and cruise missiles during the night. While Ukrainian air defenses intercepted a significant portion of the barrage, a number of missiles penetrated the shield, causing widespread destruction and panic.

Despite international pressure and the looming deadline set by U.S. President Donald Trump — who has threatened harsher sanctions if Russian President Vladimir Putin does not agree to a ceasefire by August 8 — Moscow’s bombardment of Ukrainian cities continues unabated.

The strikes mark a grim chapter in Russia’s ongoing campaign against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, drawing sharp condemnation from Western leaders and further fueling calls for increased international support for Kyiv.
