Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a strong warning against excessive dependence on foreign imports, arguing that such a strategy could ultimately undermine the country’s global competitiveness and sovereignty.

Speaking at a recent economic forum, Putin emphasized the importance of strengthening domestic production across key industries, insisting that relying too heavily on goods and technologies from abroad is a direct threat to Russia’s long-term stability and independence.

“If we buy everything and don’t produce it ourselves,” Putin stated, “Russia will simply lose its competitiveness, and with it, sovereignty.”

His remarks come amid ongoing Western sanctions and a growing push within Russia to develop self-sufficiency in critical sectors, from defense and energy to agriculture and technology. The Russian government has been ramping up efforts to boost local manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports, especially from countries that have imposed economic restrictions over geopolitical tensions.
