Violence is intensifying in southern Syria as new terror groups reportedly enter the fray against Druze factions in the city of Sweida. The once relatively calm city has become the center of a fierce conflict, with escalating clashes prompting intervention from Damascus and the imposition of a citywide curfew.
Sweida, a stronghold of the country’s Druze minority, had been under the control of local armed factions. However, as violence erupted over the weekend and quickly spread across the governorate, Druze religious leaders issued a call for de-escalation, urging local fighters to lay down their arms and endorsing the deployment of Syrian government troops to restore order.

Despite the government’s stated aim of mediating between the warring sides, state forces have reportedly taken control of several Druze-held areas, signaling a shift in the balance of power. According to reports from AFP, Damascus’s intervention has not only failed to stop the violence but has also expanded its reach across key parts of Sweida.
