Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has stirred fresh controversy with his latest comments regarding American citizens who serve in foreign militaries, specifically pointing to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Carlson asserted that Americans who enlist in the IDF—or any foreign army—should be stripped of their U.S. citizenship.

In a bold statement that has since gone viral across social media platforms, Carlson remarked, “There are a lot of Americans who’ve served in the IDF. They should lose their citizenship.” His comment has reignited a longstanding debate about dual loyalty, national allegiance, and the legal boundaries of military service abroad.

While it is not uncommon for individuals with dual citizenship or close ties to other countries to serve in foreign armed forces, Carlson’s statement suggests a hardline view that challenges the idea of shared national identities.

Critics argue that his comments unfairly target Americans with cultural or familial connections to Israel, while supporters believe Carlson is raising legitimate concerns about divided loyalties and national security.

Carlson’s remarks also touch on broader concerns about U.S. foreign policy and the role private citizens play in military conflicts overseas. For years, Americans have joined foreign forces for reasons ranging from ideological alignment to heritage and defense of their ancestral homelands.

However, Carlson’s position suggests that any such involvement should come with the cost of losing American citizenship—a notion that raises complex legal and ethical questions. Legally, U.S. law does not automatically revoke citizenship for joining a foreign military unless the country is at war with the United States, or the individual takes an oath of allegiance that conflicts with American law.
