A valid health pass is generated by two jabs from a recognised vaccine, a negative coronavirus test or a recent recovery from infection. The legislation also makes vaccination compulsory for health-workers and carers. The pass has already been obligatory from July 21 for visits to museums, cinemas and cultural venues with a capacity of more than 50 people. Tensions flared in cities across France as police forces clashed with protesters during demonstrations that quickly escalated into street confrontations. The unrest marks the latest in a series of public outcries over government policies and deepening social dissatisfaction.

According to local media and eyewitness reports, protests began peacefully but turned violent when demonstrators and riot police engaged in direct confrontations. Tear gas was deployed, barricades were set ablaze, and several arrests were made as authorities attempted to regain control of the streets.

The exact cause of the protest varies by region but reflects a broader wave of frustration among French citizens over economic pressures, controversial reforms, and concerns about civil liberties. From labor union-led marches to youth-led rallies, the demonstrations have become a symbol of mounting resistance to President Emmanuel Macron’s government.
