Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey is set to leave the club as a free agent this week, bringing an end to his four-year spell at the Emirates. The news was confirmed by trusted Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who reported that the Gunners have decided not to extend the Ghanaian international’s contract.
Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020, played a key role in Mikel Arteta’s midfield during his tenure.

However, persistent injuries and squad restructuring have now led to the decision to part ways. He will be available on a free transfer, with several clubs across Europe reportedly keeping an eye on the experienced 31-year-old.
The decision to let Partey go comes as part of Arsenal’s broader midfield shake-up. Brentford’s Christian Nørgaard is expected to join the North London side as a direct replacement for Partey. The Danish international has impressed with his tenacity and composure in the Premier League, making him a strong fit for Arteta’s tactical setup.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad’s Martín Zubimendi is reportedly lined up to replace Jorginho, another midfield veteran whose future at Arsenal appears uncertain. The Spanish playmaker has long been admired by the Gunners’ hierarchy and could bring a new dynamic to the heart of their midfield.

With Arsenal pushing to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025–26 season, these changes mark a significant evolution in Arteta’s project. The departures of Partey and potentially Jorginho signal a transition toward a younger, more dynamic midfield core as the club looks to build on recent domestic and European campaigns.
