The conflict in the Red Sea region took a dramatic turn as Yemen’s Houthi-led forces issued a bold and alarming warning: they are prepared to target all American ships and warships navigating the strategic waterway.

The threat, which was publicly declared by Houthi military spokespersons, underscores the growing volatility in one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors. The Red Sea, a vital route for global trade and oil shipments, has become increasingly militarized as regional and international tensions rise.

According to Yemeni officials aligned with the Houthi movement, the U.S. Navy and any American vessels in the area are now considered “legitimate targets” in response to what they describe as ongoing U.S. aggression and support for their adversaries in the ongoing conflict.

Yemen has been mired in conflict since 2014, when the Houthis seized control of the capital, Sana’a, leading to a prolonged war that has drawn in regional powers and created one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern history.
