American R&B star Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to a serious assault charge linked to an alleged nightclub altercation in London last year.

Appearing in a UK court on Friday, the 36-year-old singer firmly denied the accusation of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent during the incident, which reportedly took place in February 2023 at a venue in Hanover Square.

Dressed in a dark suit and glasses, Brown responded calmly to the charge with a “Not guilty, ma’am,” as he stood before the court. After the hearing, he acknowledged supporters with a wave as he exited the courtroom.

The allegations stem from an alleged attack where the victim was reportedly struck multiple times with a bottle and later chased, punched, and kicked. Brown, who had been arrested in Manchester earlier this year, spent nearly a week in custody before being released on bail.

His bail, set at £5 million ($6.7 million), requires him to return to the UK for all court proceedings or risk forfeiting the sum. Despite the legal proceedings, Brown has been permitted to continue his international tour, which kicked off in Amsterdam on June 8. He is scheduled to perform in London this Saturday as part of the UK leg.

A five-to-seven-day trial is scheduled to begin on October 26, 2026, with Brown’s legal team preparing to contest the claims.
