Kevin De Bruyne has officially signed for Napoli as a free agent, marking a major coup for the reigning Serie A champions.
The Belgian midfield maestro, recently released by Manchester City, was welcomed to Naples on Thursday by club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who shared a photo of the pair shaking hands on social media with the caption, “Welcome Kevin!”

The 33-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract with Napoli, with an option to extend for a third season. De Bruyne’s arrival signals a strong statement of intent by the Italian giants, as they look to strengthen their squad for the upcoming campaign, which includes defending their league title and navigating the expanded UEFA Champions League format.

De Bruyne, widely regarded as one of the finest midfielders of his generation, brings with him a wealth of experience and a trophy-laden résumé.
During his decade-long spell at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, he secured six Premier League titles and was instrumental in their 2023 UEFA Champions League triumph. His creativity, vision, and leadership played a vital role in City’s dominance in English football.

However, the latter part of his time at City was marred by persistent injury setbacks, particularly recurring hamstring issues that kept him sidelined for large parts of the last two seasons. Despite those challenges, De Bruyne’s class has remained undeniable, and his move to Serie A offers a fresh opportunity to rediscover his best form.

In Naples, De Bruyne will reunite with his Belgian international teammate Romelu Lukaku and team up with Scott McTominay, formerly of Manchester United. The trio is expected to form the spine of a dynamic and experienced Napoli side aiming to maintain domestic dominance while also pushing deeper into European competition.
Napoli’s ambitious move for De Bruyne underscores their desire to remain at the top of Italian and European football. With a midfield now bolstered by one of Europe’s most accomplished playmakers, the stage is set for an exciting new chapter in both De Bruyne’s career and Napoli’s evolving legacy.
