Manchester City have officially confirmed the signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan in a £46.3 million ($62.4 million) transfer, as the Premier League giants push forward with a sweeping rebuild ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup.

The 26-year-old, who joins on a five-year contract, becomes City’s fourth signing of the week, following deals for Rayan Cherki (Lyon), Marcus Bettinelli (Chelsea), and Rayan Ait-Nouri (Wolves). These acquisitions bring City’s recent spending to approximately £108 million, excluding their heavy investment in the January transfer window.

Reijnders, a Netherlands international, arrives in Manchester after just one season at AC Milan, where he scored 15 goals in a difficult campaign that saw the Rossoneri finish eighth in Serie A. His addition is viewed as a key reinforcement in midfield following the departure of club legend Kevin De Bruyne.

“I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City,” said Reijnders in his first official statement. “City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities. Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years.”

Reijnders and the other recent signings will be registered in time for the group stage of the expanded Club World Cup, which kicks off in the United States on June 14. City enter the competition as defending champions, having claimed the title under the previous format in Saudi Arabia two years ago.

The signing spree is part of a broader shake-up at the Etihad following a below-par 2024/25 campaign by the club’s lofty standards.

After winning four consecutive Premier League titles, City finished third last season and exited the Champions League early, prompting chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak to admit the club “probably should have been more aggressive” in the last summer window.

City’s director of football Hugo Viana expressed confidence in Reijnders’ potential to make an immediate impact: “Tijjani adds extra energy, composure, and creativity to our midfield. He arrives with top-level European experience and will thrive under Pep and our coaching staff.”
