In a significant battlefield development, Ukraine’s military announced that it successfully shot down a Russian Su-35 fighter jet on the morning of June 7, 2025. The downing reportedly took place in the direction of Russia’s Kursk region, marking another tactical win for Kyiv’s forces amid intensified cross-border confrontations.

“This morning, on June 7, 2025, as a result of a successful Air Force operation in the Kursk direction, a Russian Su-35 fighter jet was shot down,” Ukraine’s Air Force confirmed in a statement posted to Telegram.

The Russian military has yet to respond or provide confirmation regarding the loss of the aircraft.

This comes just days after Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) launched a major drone assault targeting more than 40 Russian military aircraft. That attack reportedly damaged or destroyed numerous strategic bombers, including Tu-95s and Tu-22s—aircraft frequently used by Moscow to launch long-range missile strikes on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

The successful takedown of the Su-35 adds to growing evidence of Ukraine’s strengthened air defense capabilities and increasingly bold tactics in striking high-value Russian assets.

The Su-35, one of Russia’s most advanced multirole fighters, plays a critical role in its air superiority operations. Its loss is not just a symbolic blow but a practical one, potentially disrupting Russia’s regional air dominance.

As fighting continues on multiple fronts, Ukraine’s ability to target high-value military assets deep into Russian-controlled territory reflects a strategic shift in the conflict—one where agility, technology, and intelligence are playing pivotal roles.
