In a dramatic turn of events, tech billionaire Elon Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump exchanged public jabs on Thursday—escalating their long-simmering tensions and dragging a controversial name into the spotlight: Jeffrey Epstein.

During their online sparring, Musk made a bombshell claim, alleging that the reason the Epstein files haven’t been made fully public is because Trump’s name appears in them.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO posted on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “Donald Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”. The post was quickly deleted, but not before screenshots and reactions spread across the internet.

This high-profile clash comes just weeks after Musk officially stepped down from his advisory role in Trump’s administration, citing the need to focus on his business interests—particularly his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he had been leading. The two have been increasingly at odds, particularly over Trump’s controversial “Big Beautiful Bill” policy proposal.

The online feud hit fever pitch Thursday when Musk claimed credit for Trump’s 2024 election win, stating: “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.”

Trump, never one to back down from a social media showdown, responded on his Truth Social platform: “I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago.”

Amid the drama, billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman tried to play peacemaker, writing on X that he supports both Musk and Trump, adding, “We are much stronger together than apart.” Musk replied, “You’re not wrong,” suggesting a possible softening—at least temporarily.

While the Musk-Trump fallout is not new, the introduction of the Epstein case into their feud has reignited discussions about transparency, sealed court documents, and the potential implications for high-profile figures.

Although Musk has since walked back his claim—at least publicly—his deleted post has left a lasting mark, fueling speculation and prompting calls for clarity about what, if anything, the Epstein files truly contain.
