Manchester United have officially agreed a deal to sign Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a transfer worth a reported £62.5 million ($83 million).

The 26-year-old attacker is set to sign a five-year contract with the Red Devils, with an option to extend the deal by an additional year. The transfer, which is subject to visa approval and registration, marks the first major signing under new manager Ruben Amorim.

In an official club statement released on Sunday, Manchester United said: “Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha. Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford.”

Cunha was in Manchester over the weekend to finalize his move. The Brazilian forward is expected to link up with his new teammates in the coming weeks once all formalities are completed.

Cunha arrives at Old Trafford after an impressive individual campaign at Wolves. Despite the club’s struggles, the Brazilian forward netted 18 goals in all competitions during the 2024/25 season, earning him the Wolves Player of the Year award.

Since joining Wolves from Atlético Madrid in January 2023, Cunha scored 33 goals in 92 appearances across all competitions. His performances have been a rare bright spot in a season that saw Wolves finish 15th in the Premier League, their lowest league position since 1973–74.

Matheus Cunha becomes Ruben Amorim’s first signing as Manchester United boss, signaling the club’s intent to rebuild following a disappointing season. United’s decision to activate the release clause in Cunha’s Wolves contract underscores their confidence in his ability to bolster their attacking options.

With the Europa League final loss to Tottenham still fresh and domestic frustrations mounting, United fans will hope Cunha can inject fresh energy and goals into the squad.

Cunha has earned 13 caps for the Brazil national team and is known for his flair, pace, and intelligent movement off the ball. He’s versatile in attack and can operate as a central striker, second forward, or even on the wings—qualities that will give Amorim tactical flexibility.
