Kyiv, Ukraine – In one of the most intense escalations in recent months, Russian forces launched a massive wave of drone and missile attacks across Ukraine early Sunday, leaving at least 11 injured in Kyiv and killing three in towns surrounding the capital.
The overnight assault also caused widespread damage to residential buildings and infrastructure in multiple regions.
In Kyiv, Timur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration, confirmed that 11 people were injured in drone strikes. A five-storey apartment building in the Holosiivskyi district was directly hit, sparking a fire and leaving the facade severely damaged. Strikes in other areas also hit a private residence and a business center.

Just outside the capital, officials in the Kyiv region reported that three people were killed in attacks on the small towns of Boiarka and Vyshneve, as Russian drones and missiles rained down during the early morning hours.

This marks the second consecutive night of heavy aerial bombardment, following Friday night’s massive barrage in which dozens of drones and ballistic missiles struck Kyiv, injuring 15 people and damaging several apartment complexes.

The strikes extended far beyond the capital. Ukrainian cities including Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Ternopil were also targeted. In Kharkiv, drone attacks injured three people and shattered windows in several high-rise buildings.

Mykolaiv’s regional governor confirmed two civilian injuries in a residential area hit by drones. A missile strike in Ternopil damaged buildings and started a small fire. North of Kyiv, the town of Konotop faced a mass drone assault as well.

Ukraine’s military said the attacks were among the largest combined aerial offensives since the beginning of the war, now in its third year. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed it had intercepted or destroyed 95 Ukrainian drones within a four-hour timeframe.
Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that 12 Ukrainian drones were downed en route to the Russian capital.
As Ukraine braces for further attacks, the renewed intensity underscores the fragility of the frontlines and the risks to civilian life in both urban centers and outlying towns. With millions of Ukrainians still living under constant threat, local leaders continue to call on the international community for enhanced air defense systems and humanitarian support.
