After more than a decade of unforgettable football and unmatched glory, Luka Modrić has penned a heartfelt farewell to Real Madrid and its fans as he prepares to play his final match at the Santiago Bernabéu this Saturday.

In an emotional open letter, Modrić reflected on the moment he had hoped would never come: saying goodbye to the club that transformed his life both professionally and personally. “Time has come. The moment I never wanted to come,” he wrote, acknowledging the reality that in both football and life, “everything has a beginning and an end.”

Modrić joined Real Madrid in 2012 with ambition and determination. But even with lofty expectations, he admits he never could have imagined the magnitude of what was to come. Over his 12-year spell with Los Blancos, the Croatian maestro became a pillar of one of the most successful eras in the club’s storied history.

“Playing at Real Madrid changed my life,” he said. “I feel proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history.” Modrić extended heartfelt thanks to club president Florentino Pérez, his teammates, coaches, and all the staff who supported him along the journey.

From stunning comebacks to magical nights under the Bernabéu lights, Modrić recounted the triumphs that defined his time in Madrid — but emphasized that beyond the titles and trophies, what means the most to him is the unwavering love and support from the fans.

“I really don’t know how to explain the special connection I have with you,” he wrote. “I will never forget each ovation and all the gestures of affection you have shown me.”

As he prepares to take the pitch one last time in front of the Madrid faithful, Modrić says he is leaving with “a full heart” — filled with gratitude, pride, and memories that will last a lifetime. Though he’ll no longer wear the iconic white jersey after the upcoming Club World Cup, he assured fans that his loyalty to the club remains unshaken.

“I’ll always be a Madrid fan. Hala Madrid y nada más!”

Luka Modrić’s legacy at Real Madrid will endure, not just in silverware and statistics, but in the hearts of the fans he inspired — and who inspired him in return.
