In a significant breakthrough for global aviation and trade, China has reportedly lifted its ban on domestic airlines accepting new Boeing aircraft—a move closely tied to recent progress in U.S.-China trade relations.
According to a Bloomberg News report on Tuesday, Chinese authorities have begun notifying local carriers that they may resume orders of U.S.-manufactured planes. The shift comes after a prolonged freeze in deliveries that stemmed from escalating tit-for-tat tariffs between the two economic giants.

Last month, Boeing confirmed that deliveries to Chinese airlines had been suspended, as both countries imposed steep trade duties. At one point, U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods reached as high as 145%, while China responded with retaliatory tariffs of up to 125% on American products—including aircraft.

However, tensions eased this week after both governments agreed to a temporary truce. In a joint announcement on Monday following negotiations in Geneva, the United States committed to lowering tariffs to 30%, while China agreed to reduce its own to 10% over a 90-day period.

The agreement aims to provide breathing room for further dialogue on trade and economic cooperation. President Donald Trump called the agreement a “total reset,” hinting at possible follow-up talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the near future.

Boeing, which had projected delivering around 50 aircraft to China in 2025, has not yet issued an official comment on the reported policy change. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also declined immediate comment.

Industry analysts view the decision as a major step toward normalizing commercial ties and revitalizing Boeing’s presence in one of its most important international markets.
As the world watches this renewed spirit of cooperation unfold, aviation and trade sectors alike are hopeful that this marks the beginning of more stable and mutually beneficial relations between Washington and Beijing.
