A viral video of French President Emmanuel Macron sparked a wave of wild conspiracy theories online this week, after social media users claimed he was seen discreetly hiding a pouch of cocaine during a train journey to Ukraine. The footage quickly gained traction, with unfounded speculation spreading across platforms.
However, major French media outlets have strongly refuted the claims, dismissing them as baseless and labeling the rumors “absurd conspiracies.”

The clip in question shows President Macron adjusting a small white pouch during a train ride. But contrary to online rumors, no evidence supports any link to illegal substances.

French journalists confirmed the video was taken while Macron was en route to Ukraine, accompanied by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer—adding further context that makes the drug accusations appear implausible.
“This is pure misinformation with no factual basis,” noted one leading French news outlet. “The attempt to suggest drug use based on such a brief, ambiguous clip is irresponsible and misleading.”

The incident highlights how easily misinformation can spread on social media, especially when fueled by political bias or sensationalism. Critics of Macron seized on the moment to push anti-government narratives, but the broader public conversation has since shifted toward media literacy and the dangers of viral falsehoods.
As of now, no official statement has been made by the Élysée Palace, though the French press continues to call for fact-based discourse amid a surge in digital conspiracy culture.
