Islamabad – Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday addressed the nation, hailing what he called a “victory” after Islamabad and New Delhi reached a ceasefire agreement following days of escalating military tensions.
The ceasefire, brokered with help from international mediators, aims to dial down hostilities after a sharp rise in cross-border strikes and drone activity.
In his televised address, Sharif praised the Pakistani military’s performance, claiming that India’s ammunition depots, airbases, and logistics hubs had been “reduced to ruins” by what he described as a “professional and effective response” by the armed forces.

“We acted with restraint but responded with precision. Our defense forces upheld Pakistan’s sovereignty with courage and clarity,” said Sharif, also thanking Army Chief General Asim Munir for his “brave leadership.”

However, India swiftly dismissed these claims. At a press conference in New Delhi, Colonel Sophia Qureshi presented satellite visuals that reportedly showed all Indian bases—including Sirsa and Suratgarh—were fully operational, countering Pakistan’s narrative.

The Indian government described Sharif’s remarks as “a tissue of lies,” further asserting that Pakistan’s allegations of targeting civilians and religious sites were “completely baseless.”

Sharif went on to thank U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their “valuable contributions” to de-escalation efforts. He also acknowledged the diplomatic support of China, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and the United Kingdom, all of whom played a role in facilitating the ceasefire.

“We have given a positive response in the interest of peace,” Sharif said. “We believe in the path of peaceful negotiation, in line with principles of justice, to resolve all outstanding issues—including Jammu and Kashmir and the distribution of water resources.”

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan’s operation was not against a nation but against hatred, aggression, and religious extremism, framing it as a move toward long-term stability in the region.

While Sharif projected confidence and hope for “a new beginning,” skepticism remains high, especially after India reported multiple ceasefire violations shortly after the agreement was announced. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that India remains on high alert, with its armed forces instructed to respond firmly to any further provocations.
Still, the ceasefire offers a temporary respite and a diplomatic window—albeit narrow—for both nuclear-armed neighbors to explore peaceful conflict resolution.
