In a significant counterterrorism success, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the elimination of Nour al-Bitawi, a senior commander of the Islamic Jihad terror cell based in Jenin.

Bitawi, described by Israeli security agencies as a key figure in orchestrating and funding terror operations across northern Samaria, was killed in a joint operation carried out in Nablus.

According to the IDF, Bitawi was heavily involved in advanced terror activities, including the planning, financing, and execution of attacks against Israeli forces. He also played a central role in recruiting and arming operatives, coordinating with Hamas operatives in Gaza and abroad to further expand militant capabilities in the West Bank.

Bitawi had been on Israel’s wanted list for several months. He was identified fleeing from Jenin to Nablus following a previous military operation in northern Samaria. His involvement in transferring terror funds, manufacturing explosive devices, and establishing a network of armed militants posed an escalating threat to Israeli troops and civilians alike.

The IDF noted that Bitawi “worked tirelessly to establish terror infrastructure in Jenin and surrounding villages, while directly overseeing the production and planting of explosive devices meant to target IDF forces.”

The operation that led to Bitawi’s death was the result of intensive intelligence gathering by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), in coordination with the Yamam (Israel’s elite counter-terror unit) and IDF ground forces.

Once security forces confirmed Bitawi’s location inside a home in Nablus, the joint units moved in swiftly, surrounding the compound and eliminating him and another armed militant who was with him.

This operation marks a critical blow to Islamic Jihad’s command structure in the West Bank, particularly in Jenin — a known hotspot for terror activity. Israeli officials stressed that such operations will continue as long as militant groups attempt to destabilize the region and target Israeli forces.

The successful neutralization of Bitawi sends a strong message to terrorist networks operating within the West Bank that Israel’s intelligence capabilities and operational reach remain uncompromising.
