Russian Drones Reportedly Destroy U.S.-Supplied HIMARS Launcher in Donetsk

A Russian drone strike reportedly destroyed one of Ukraine’s U.S.-supplied HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) launchers near the frontline in eastern Ukraine, marking a significant moment in the ongoing drone warfare between the two nations.

The elite Russian drone unit, Rubicon Center of Advanced Unmanned Technologies, announced on Telegram that it had successfully targeted and destroyed the high-value military asset near the village of Rusyn Yar, approximately 30 kilometers (18 miles) from the front line in the Donetsk region.

The unit claimed that the HIMARS launcher was located and struck with precision as part of ongoing operations in the Donetsk direction. “Donetsk direction. 30 km from the front line, the Rubicon combat groups discovered and destroyed the HIMARS,” the post read.

Ukraine has used HIMARS extensively since receiving them from the United States, often deploying the advanced system to strike high-value Russian targets such as anti-aircraft missile batteries, command posts, and supply depots.

These precision-guided rocket systems have been a key factor in Ukraine’s defensive and offensive operations, especially in targeting rear-echelon positions.

While video footage and claims by the Rubicon unit suggest the system was destroyed, official confirmation from either the Russian or Ukrainian military has not been released. If verified, the loss would be one of the most high-profile Ukrainian battlefield setbacks in recent weeks.
