Norwich City have parted ways with manager Johannes Hoff Thorup after a string of disappointing results, with former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere stepping in as interim head coach for the final two games of the season.
Thorup’s dismissal comes after three consecutive defeats left the Canaries languishing in 14th place in the Championship table. With no chance of reaching the play-offs — reserved for the teams finishing between third and sixth — the club has decided to act swiftly.

The 36-year-old Danish coach was appointed less than a year ago, signing a three-year contract in May to succeed David Wagner, who had been let go after Norwich’s play-off loss to Leeds United.

Thorup arrived with high expectations, but the club’s form has faltered, and any hopes of a swift return to the Premier League have faded.
Assistant head coach Glen Riddersholm has also departed alongside Thorup, as the club looks to reset ahead of a crucial summer.

Speaking on the decision, sporting director Ben Knapper said: “Whilst we made this appointment with a long-term focus and in line with our wider club strategy and direction, unfortunately recent results and performances have deemed it necessary for us make a change.”

In a surprise move, Jack Wilshere — who has been part of Thorup’s backroom staff this season — will now take the reins temporarily. For the 32-year-old, it’s an unexpected but exciting opportunity to lead a senior side, as he begins to shape the next chapter of his career in football management.

Though Norwich have nothing left to play for this season in terms of league position, these final two fixtures will serve as a testing ground for Wilshere and a chance for players to make a case for their place in next year’s squad.
The Canaries now face a pivotal off-season as they search for a permanent manager and aim to regroup for another push toward Premier League promotion. Whether Wilshere could play a bigger role in that future remains to be seen — but all eyes will be on how he steers the team through these final matches.
