Arsenal have officially named Andrea Berta as their new sporting director, marking a significant shift in the club’s leadership. The Italian football executive, who previously held the same role at Atletico Madrid, replaces Edu, who departed in November 2024.
Berta served as Atletico Madrid’s sporting director from 2017 until January 2025, overseeing a transformative period for the Spanish club. During his tenure, Atletico navigated major player acquisitions and departures, including the signings and sales of stars like Rodri and Antoine Griezmann.

Notably, last summer, the club invested £180 million ($233m) in key players such as Julian Alvarez, Conor Gallagher, Robin Le Normand, and Alexander Sorloth.

With years of experience managing high-profile transfers and squad development, Berta’s arrival at Arsenal signals the club’s ambition to strengthen its recruitment strategy. His expertise in building competitive squads could play a crucial role in Arsenal’s long-term aspirations, both domestically and in European competitions.

Berta’s appointment is expected to bring a fresh approach to Arsenal’s football operations. As the club continues its pursuit of silverware, his experience in talent acquisition and squad optimization will be instrumental in shaping the team’s future success.
