Chelsea have bolstered their squad with the signings of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon, sealing a combined deal worth approximately £62.5 million ($81 million).
The Portuguese club confirmed the transfers late Wednesday, revealing that 17-year-old winger Quenda will cost just under £44 million, while defensive midfielder Essugo, 20, joins for £18.5 million.
Quenda, a highly-rated versatile winger who had previously been linked with a reunion with former manager Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, will remain with Sporting until the end of next season before making his switch to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Essugo, a promising midfield enforcer, will complete the current campaign on loan at La Liga side Las Palmas before heading to London. His defensive attributes could provide much-needed depth for Chelsea’s midfield, potentially serving as a backup for Moises Caicedo.

The signings reflect Chelsea’s ongoing commitment to investing in young talent. The club has already secured the future arrivals of Brazilian forward Estevao Willian and Ecuadorian sensation Kendry Paez, both 17, who are set to join the squad ahead of next season.

Quenda has rapidly established himself in Sporting’s first team, making his Champions League debut in September and netting his first league goal against Famalicao in October. Essugo, known for his ability to dictate play from the base of midfield, has impressed with his composure and physicality.
Under the stewardship of co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, Chelsea continue their ambitious squad rebuild, blending youth with experience. Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, the Blues are pushing hard for a Champions League qualification spot.
