John Cena Announces His Retirement from Wrestling

US actor and wrestling icon John Cena has officially announced his retirement from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) events. Cena, 47, made the unexpected announcement during his appearance at the WWE Money in the Bank event in Canada, leaving fans both surprised and emotional.

Cena, who transitioned into acting 18 years ago, revealed that his final in-ring competition will take place in 2025 as part of a farewell tour. Since joining WWE in 2001, Cena has earned a reputation as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, achieving world champion status 16 times.

Addressing fans in Toronto, Cena said, “Tonight I officially announce my retirement from the WWE.” The crowd, initially shocked, soon erupted into chants of “thank you, Cena,” to which he graciously responded, “What an incredible gesture of kindness.”

Wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with “The Last Time is Now” and his trademark denim shorts, Cena expressed heartfelt gratitude to WWE fans for “letting me play in the house that you built for so many years.”

At a press conference later, Cena clarified his future intentions, stating that he plans to remain connected to the WWE family in some capacity, despite feeling physically “at my end.” His career in WWE has been part-time since 2018, coinciding with the rise of his successful acting career.

Cena’s acting debut came in 2006 with his role in The Marine, and he has since starred in numerous big-budget films, including The Suicide Squad, Fast & Furious 9, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

This year, he made headlines for his humorous appearance during an Academy Awards skit, where he was strategically covered by an envelope.

Beyond wrestling and acting, Cena has made a significant impact through his charitable efforts. He holds a Guinness World Record as the most requested celebrity by children involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, having granted more wishes than any other celebrity to children with critical illnesses.

As John Cena prepares to bid farewell to the wrestling ring, his legacy both inside and outside of WWE will undoubtedly endure. Fans around the world will remember his contributions to wrestling and his impressive achievements in the entertainment industry.
