The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral livestream in which he was seen driving recklessly and threatening to crash his vehicle before eventually being involved in an accident.
The incident occurred on Sunday along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos and quickly gained widespread attention online after footage showed the visibly distressed 20-year-old content creator livestreaming while driving. Moments later, his vehicle crashed, raising serious concerns about public safety.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that Peller’s arrest followed the circulation of the video. According to the police, his actions not only led to a dangerous road crash but also posed a grave threat to other road users.
The police described the act as an alleged attempt to commit suicide, noting that livestreaming such behavior amounted to reckless endangerment. The statement explained that the suspect was detained for further investigation after the video surfaced online on December 14, 2025, showing him driving in an unsafe manner while broadcasting live.
Authorities revealed that the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a detailed probe. The police said the outcome of the investigation would be made public and that Peller would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, issued a strong warning to social media influencers and the general public, cautioning against using online platforms to promote or engage in dangerous and unlawful conduct. He stressed that such actions would not be tolerated and that offenders would face the full weight of the law.
The police also urged motorists across Lagos State to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, emphasizing that public roads must not be turned into content-creation spaces at the expense of human lives.
