The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered the prosecution of popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video that showed him livestreaming while driving shortly before being involved in a road crash.

The directive was issued by the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, who expressed serious concern over the incident and what he described as a growing culture of reckless road behavior among celebrities and social media influencers.

The statement, released on Monday and signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, condemned the dangerous act and warned against using public roads as content-creation spaces.

According to the FRSC, the widely circulated video captured Peller driving while visibly distressed and actively engaging in a live broadcast. The situation reportedly led to a crash that deployed the vehicle’s airbag and attracted the attention of bystanders who rushed to assist at the scene.

The Corps stated that livestreaming while driving is a clear violation of existing traffic regulations and poses serious risks not only to the driver but also to other road users. The agency emphasized that distracted driving remains one of the leading causes of road accidents in Nigeria.

Following the incident, the Corps Marshal directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to immediately initiate all necessary legal procedures to prosecute the streamer. The charges are expected to include reckless driving, use of a mobile phone while driving, and distracted driving, in line with applicable traffic laws.

The FRSC reiterated its warning to motorists, particularly public figures with large online followings, to obey traffic rules and avoid actions that could endanger lives. The agency stressed that fame or social media influence does not exempt anyone from the law and urged content creators to promote road safety rather than risky behavior.

The development has sparked renewed conversations online about influencer responsibility, road safety awareness, and the consequences of prioritizing online engagement over public safety.
