Tensions in Yemen’s eastern region escalated sharply after footage surfaced showing large Saudi military convoys heading toward Hadhramaut, sparking fears of a direct confrontation with UAE-backed forces.
The development follows an announcement by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) that it had taken control of Seiyun, one of the most important cities in Hadhramaut. The STC’s advance is part of a broader military operation it has named “The Promising Future.”
In recent days, videos circulating online have revealed significant mobilization of STC fighters moving deeper into the oil-rich region. Their push has increased concerns that clashes could erupt between the UAE-backed STC and Saudi-backed tribal groups stationed within Hadhramaut.
Hadhramaut is strategically vital—covering nearly one-third of Yemen’s total landmass and containing about 80% of the country’s limited oil reserves. Whoever controls the region holds significant military and economic leverage.
The growing military presence from both sides underscores rising geopolitical tensions within the coalition previously united against Houthi forces, raising new uncertainties for Yemen’s already fragile stability.
