Nigeria’s Minister of Defence has stressed that the country’s security challenges cannot be solved through military force alone, calling for a holistic approach rooted in justice, fairness and effective governance.
Speaking during a national security briefing, the minister emphasized that Nigeria’s problems extend beyond the battlefield and require coordinated efforts across both kinetic (military) and non-kinetic (non-military) strategies.
He noted that while armed forces continue to play a crucial role in combating threats, deeper issues such as poor governance, lack of equity, and absence of social justice must also be addressed if lasting peace is to be achieved.
“The challenges we’re facing aren’t entirely military solutions,” he said. “Nigeria lacks good governance, justice, equity and fairness — and these are what we must encourage. It has to be holistic. The non-kinetic and kinetic must work hand in hand.”
The minister added that the government has a responsibility not only to protect citizens but also to rebuild trust, ensure fairness, and create an environment where every Nigerian feels valued.
“We cannot afford to fail Nigerians — especially ourselves,” he stated, reminding leaders that meaningful change “begins at home.”
His remarks highlight a growing recognition that Nigeria’s security crisis demands broader reforms, community engagement, and accountable governance alongside ongoing military operations.
