In a recent interview with Fox News, President Donald Trump defended the H-1B skilled worker visa program, emphasizing that the United States still lacks enough homegrown talent to meet the demands of certain industries.

Speaking with Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Tuesday night, President Trump acknowledged concerns that the H-1B visa program could impact wages for American workers but insisted that the program remains essential for the nation’s growth and innovation.

“I agree — but you also do have to bring in talent,” Trump said, responding to Ingraham’s question about whether his administration would scale back H-1B visas. He explained that certain technical and specialized positions require skills that are not readily available among the current U.S. workforce.

“We don’t have certain talents, and people have to learn,” Trump stated. “You can’t take people off an unemployment line and say, ‘I’m going to put you into a factory where we’re going to make missiles.’”

The H-1B visa program, which allows U.S. companies to hire foreign workers in specialized fields such as technology, engineering, and healthcare, has long been a subject of political debate. While critics argue that it can drive down wages and limit opportunities for American workers, supporters claim it’s vital for maintaining America’s competitive edge in innovation and high-tech industries.

President Trump’s latest remarks signal a more pragmatic approach toward immigration in the skilled labor sector, suggesting that while protecting American jobs remains a priority, attracting global talent is equally critical to sustaining economic progress and technological advancement.
