Tension is rising at the Tanzania–Malawi border, as reports emerge that a group of Malawian Gen Z activists crossed into Kyela, Mbeya Region, to join ongoing protests against the government of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

According to eyewitness accounts circulating online, the young Malawians allegedly chased away border security and immigration officials before entering Tanzania, declaring solidarity with Tanzanian protesters who have taken to the streets in defiance of curfew orders.

The unprecedented move comes amid widespread unrest across Tanzania, where demonstrators have lit bonfires and clashed with security forces following disputed elections that saw opposition candidates disqualified. The protests have since spread beyond major cities like Dar es Salaam, capturing regional and international attention.

Observers say the cross-border solidarity reflects a growing regional youth movement demanding accountability, good governance, and freedom from political repression. Authorities in both countries have yet to release official statements regarding the reported breach at the Kyela border.
