Tanzania’s political tension continues to escalate as protesters take to the streets in defiance of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s government. Demonstrations have erupted across major cities, with angry citizens lighting bonfires and chanting anti-government slogans to express frustration over alleged political repression and economic hardship.
The protests, which began after opposition leaders were disqualified from participating in the recent election, have spread rapidly across Dar es Salaam and other urban centers. Eyewitnesses report that security forces have been deployed heavily, with police using tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds.
Authorities have yet to issue a detailed statement, though earlier this week, police imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Dar es Salaam following outbreaks of violence. Internet connectivity remains restricted in several areas, further fueling anger among the populace.
