A young Gen Z teacher has shared a surprising and somewhat shocking experience from her first day in the classroom. According to her, a Primary One pupil called her “Ashawo” (a derogatory term meaning prostitute) simply because she wore a short gown to school.
The teacher recounted the incident in a viral post, expressing both amusement and disbelief at how the little child used such an adult term. “On my first day of teaching, because I wore a short gown, a Primary One student called me Ashawo,” she wrote.
Many commenters also weighed in on the topic of teacher dress codes, debating whether educators should be more conservative in their attire to set examples for young students, or whether societal perceptions around women’s clothing remain unfairly judgmental.
