A Nigerian who recently arrived in the United States has raised alarm after revealing that a fellow countryman attempted to lure him into an internet fraud scheme known locally as “picking.”
Sharing his experience, the new arrival lamented that he had barely settled in when he was approached with an offer to open a bank account for fraudulent activities in exchange for a percentage cut.
“I just arrived in the US and a fellow Nigerian is already trying to lure me into opening an account for ‘picking’ and take a cut,” he said.
The revelation has sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians condemning the prevalence of such fraudulent practices abroad, warning that they not only endanger individuals but also damage the reputation of the Nigerian community internationally.
