Tragedy struck in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, on Sunday when a gunman attacked worshippers inside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during service, killing at least one person and wounding nine others.

Police said the incident began when a 40-year-old man rammed his vehicle into the church’s front entrance before storming inside and opening fire on congregants. Panic erupted as hundreds of worshippers tried to flee or seek cover during the terrifying assault.

According to Police Chief William Renye, the suspect also attempted to set the church ablaze, sparking a fire that engulfed the building. Witnesses reported seeing heavy flames and thick smoke rising from the church as emergency responders battled the blaze for hours before bringing it under control.

Officers arrived quickly at the scene and shot the gunman, preventing further casualties. The suspect’s condition has not yet been disclosed. Authorities confirmed that one person died in the attack, while nine others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the attack, while the community of Grand Blanc Township mourns the loss of life and grapples with the devastation of both violence and fire inside a house of worship.
