The ancient city of Ibadan is preparing for history as Oba Rasheed Ladoja will be officially crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26, 2025, at a grand coronation ceremony scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall, Oyo State.
Oba Ladoja, who will receive the staff and instrument of office, succeeds the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90. Unlike previous transitions marked by disputes, Ladoja’s ascension has been described as peaceful and widely welcomed across Ibadanland.
Preparatory activities for the coronation commenced earlier in the week with interdenominational prayers held at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, in Ibadan North Local Government Area. Traditional rites and cultural displays are also expected to feature prominently as the city gears up to celebrate its new monarch.
The coronation of Oba Rasheed Ladoja, a respected political leader and cultural figure, is seen as a unifying moment for Ibadanland, reaffirming the city’s rich traditions and deep-rooted monarchy.
