Tragedy struck yesterday evening as officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were reportedly involved in a fatal accident along the Enugu–Port Harcourt expressway.
The officers were said to be returning from Enugu to the Abia State Command when the unfortunate incident occurred. Although details surrounding the cause of the crash remain unclear, eyewitnesses confirmed that the accident resulted in casualties, leaving the corps and affected families in mourning.
The Enugu–Port Harcourt expressway, a major route in southeastern Nigeria, has been the scene of frequent accidents due to poor road conditions, reckless driving, and heavy traffic. This latest incident once again highlights the risks faced by security operatives who often travel long distances in the course of duty.
As the news spreads, condolences continue to pour in for the officers involved, with many Nigerians calling for urgent improvements to road safety measures across the country. The NSCDC is yet to release an official statement regarding the accident.
