U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson made a startling claim on Friday, saying that President Donald Trump once served as an FBI informant in an effort to help federal authorities investigate Jeffrey Epstein.

Speaking to reporters, Johnson — a Republican and close ally of Trump — asserted that the president had a history of cooperating with federal investigators “for decades,” including during Epstein’s association with Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

“He’s not saying what Epstein did is a hoax — it’s a terrible, unspeakable evil, and he believes that himself,” Johnson said. “When he first heard the rumor, he kicked him (Epstein) out of Mar-a-Lago. He was an FBI informant trying to take this down.”

Johnson’s remarks came even as President Trump dismissed bipartisan efforts in Congress to declassify and release all federal files on Epstein, describing the push as a “Democrat hoax.” The Speaker, however, insisted that Trump has “great sympathy for the women who have suffered these unspeakable harms.”

The White House has not yet commented on Johnson’s assertion, and it remains unclear how much of Trump’s alleged cooperation with the FBI can be verified through official records.

The explosive statement adds new fuel to the ongoing debate over Epstein’s political ties, Trump’s role in past investigations, and growing pressure for full transparency on Epstein’s connections with powerful figures.
