A resurfaced video of former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has stirred fresh conversations about Nigeria’s political future as speculations grow over former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential return in the 2027 elections.
In the viral clip, recorded in May 2025 during an Abuja ceremony where she received the Women Icon Leader of the Year Award from Accolades Dynamics Limited, Patience Jonathan firmly dismissed the idea of returning to Aso Rock.
Speaking at the event, she highlighted the overwhelming pressures of holding public office in Nigeria. “The distress of Nigeria is so much that if God manages to bring you out of it, you should glorify Him. Why do you want to go back there? I need peace… My peace is enough,” she declared.
Her remarks have resurfaced at a time when political groups and northern stakeholders are reportedly pushing for Goodluck Jonathan to re-enter the presidential race. In August 2025, cleric Bomadi Serimoedumu also claimed that Jonathan would make a comeback to Aso Rock, further fueling speculation about his political ambitions.
Patience Jonathan’s candid words appear to signal her disapproval of any such plans, emphasizing her desire for a peaceful life away from the burdens of national leadership.
As Nigeria edges closer to the 2027 general elections, debates around Jonathan’s possible candidacy and the political maneuvering of interest groups are expected to intensify, with the resurfaced video adding another layer to the unfolding narrative.
