A viral video from Umuahia, Abia State, has sparked widespread debate after a Nigerian woman confronted a police officer for allegedly attempting to extort money from a commercial tricycle rider (popularly known as keke).

The incident reportedly occurred at Azikiwe Junction by Aba Road, where police officers were seen stopping and interrogating several keke drivers. In the video, the woman boldly approached one of the officers and questioned his actions, asking why he was harassing the driver.

The officer responded that the keke rider had been stopped for not having a side mirror. However, the woman interrupted, accusing the officer of demanding money instead. At first, the officer denied the allegation, but moments later, the keke driver revealed a ₦200 note in his hand, claiming he had been pressured to hand it over.

A passenger inside the tricycle also backed the driver’s claim, stating that the policeman attempted to extort money under the guise of a traffic violation.

The footage has since gone viral on social media, drawing mixed reactions from Nigerians who praised the woman’s courage while condemning the alleged misconduct of the officer.

This development adds to ongoing conversations about police extortion and accountability in Nigeria, especially involving commercial transport operators who are often victims of harassment on the road.
