The Lebanese Army has completed a second round of weapons collection from Palestinian refugee camps in and around Beirut, marking a significant step in the ongoing disarmament process.

According to Ramez Dimashkieh, chairman of the official Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) handed over three truckloads of weapons to the army. The cache included rockets and other heavy weaponry.

Dimashkieh explained that one truckload was collected from the Mar Elias and Shatila camps, while the remaining two came from the Burj al-Barajneh camp, located on the outskirts of Beirut. He noted that this delivery “completes the process of handing over PLO weapons from the Beirut camps.”

At the entrance of the Burj al-Barajneh camp, AFP correspondents witnessed large wooden crates being moved and inspected by Lebanese soldiers before being transported. The handover was carried out under tight security, with heavy troop deployment in the area.

Earlier, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency had reported the arrival of army vehicles at Burj al-Barajneh to receive the new batch of Palestinian weapons.

This development is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen Lebanese state authority and address long-standing security concerns linked to armed groups within Palestinian camps.
